Celebrate Spring at the Next GWCA Community Meeting on Thursday, May 28th!!
Our next GWCA Community Meeting will be Thursday, May 28 at 6:30 PM in Warner Park. In preparation for our fabulous Garden Walk we will have a container gardening demonstration by the knowledgeable and entertaining Sheila Caswell of Fertile Gardens. Following will be a business meeting with the election of new board members. Meeting will be held rain or shine!

GWCA Council Members Needed
Please consider volunteering to be a Council Member of the Graceland West Community Association. It is volunteers like you that allow us to make the Graceland West neighborhood a unique and friendly place. We have three Council Member terms expiring this June. Elections will be held at the May 21st Community Meeting. Please come out to the meeting and consider volunteering. The time commitment is minimal and it is a great way to get to know your neighbors. Contact any Council Member if you have any questions.

Annual GWCA Garden Walk Set for June 21st
Can you imagine, it'll be the 27th? The GWCA GARDEN WALK, of course! The walk will be June 21st, from noon – 5 PM., followed by our gardener's dinner in Warner Park at 6:00. This year's dinner will be dedicated to Dads. Volunteers needed, call Donna Forsberg at 773-348-1469 or donnaforsberg@sbcglobal.net

Ravenswood School
Kudos to Ravenswood School. Their first school benefit "Spring Forward" was held Apr. 18th at Architectural Artifacts. The event was a huge success and raised $21,000. Ravenswood School was recently designated as a Fine Arts Cluster School, with new programs starting in the fall of 2009. The school will have both a music and art program. There is lots of enthusiasm at our neighborhood school now under the leadership of Principal Heather Connolly. Learn more and keep up with school news at www.ravenswoodelementary.com or email friendsofravenswood@hotmail.com.

Help make the “Summer Soiree” (GWCA’s adult summer party) a Success!
The "Summer Soiree", on August 15th from 6pm to 10 pm, will feature an evening of great music (a live band!), food, beverages, convivial conversation and GWCA's annual Silent Auction, our fundraiser offering up all kinds of treasures! To volunteer help, or to donate an item for the auction, please contact Kesh Sorensen at 773-251-5501 or keshs@sbcglobal.net

GWCA Fest is Coming Up Fast
This year’s GWCA Fest will be Saturday, September 12th from noon to 5 on the 4100 block of Greenview. Please mark your calendars to attend and volunteer at this fun family event. To volunteer, or if you have any questions, please contact Barb Sullivan at barbarasullivan06@comcast.net.

Alley Resurfacing Project
To the neighbors bounded by Montrose, Ashland, Greenview and Cullom. The city has informed me that we will be getting the alley rebuilt sometime this year. A notice will be sent to all affected about two weeks before the work is to commence. The alley will be inaccessible for about ten days. During this time please plan on parking your cars on the street and having your trash receptacles in the front of the building or someplace where they can be serviced. Thank you. Terry Baublis, 4346 N. Greenview, 773-281-2958.

Patrick McAndrew
My name is Patrick McAndrew. I have lived in the Graceland West neighborhood for the past 15 years. I live at 1453 W. Warner Ave on the second floor of a three -flat owned by Dawn Ragan. Last year, I was nominated for a Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching, and was selected as a 2008 Golden Apple Teacher of Distinction.
I will be moving this month to Kathmandu, Nepal to begin working as an elementary teacher at an international school there. It has been wonderful living in this neighborhood for all these years, and I found the residents to all be great people. I'm looking forward to this next adventure in my life.
